Coming on your own is a very good idea.

Solo travellers are some of our favourite guests. They arrive open, they participate fully, they connect easily with the rest of the group — and they almost always say, somewhere around day three, that they can’t believe they nearly didn’t come because they didn’t have anyone to come with.

VIScovery is designed for groups of up to 12. But it works just as well for one.

WHY SOLO WORKS HERE

Why solo travel works at VIScovery

The format does the work
A structured week with shared activities, shared meals and a small group of like-minded people removes the hardest part of travelling solo: having to engineer connection from scratch. By dinner on day one, you’ll know everyone’s name. By day three, you’ll be jumping off cliffs together.

Small group, real bonds
Twelve guests is the maximum we ever take. That’s not a lot of people. It’s the right number for a group that actually becomes a group — not a tour bus, not a resort pool, not strangers eating in silence. Solo travellers consistently tell us the group dynamic is one of the best parts of the week.

You’re never on your own unless you want to be
Every morning has structure — activities, guides, somewhere to be. Every evening has a table to come back to. The afternoons are yours, and the beaches near the house are five minutes’ walk. If you want company, it’s there. If you want an hour to yourself with a book in the garden, that’s there too.

We’ve had solo guests who came not knowing a single person and left having made friends they still visit. That’s not an accident — it’s what happens when twelve people spend a week doing things that matter together.

SOLO PRICING

Solo pricing — no single supplement in shoulder season

We know the single supplement — the extra charge hotels and tour operators add for the crime of travelling alone — is one of the most frustrating parts of solo travel. We’ve tried to make our approach as fair as possible.

July and August — peak season

In July and August, demand for the double rooms is highest and weeks fill up quickly. For solo travellers during peak season, we offer two options:

→  Room share: we match you with another solo guest of the same gender, if one is available. You each pay the standard adult price of €1,799 — no supplement, shared room. We only do this with your agreement, and we’ll always let you know in advance who you’d be sharing with.

→  Private double room: if you’d prefer your own room in peak season, a supplement of €450 applies to cover the unoccupied bed. This guarantees you the room to yourself regardless of availability.

Our honest recommendation for solo travellers: if flexibility on dates is possible, April, May, June, September or early October give you the same island, the same programme, the same food — with fewer tourists elsewhere on Vis, quieter beaches, and no supplement to think about. The water is still warm in September and the light in October is extraordinary.

Pre- and post-season (April, May, June, September, October): you book a double room and pay the standard adult price of €1,799. No single supplement, no extra charge. The room is yours

WHY SHOULDER SEASON IS WORTH CONSIDERING

Why shoulder season is worth considering

The island at its best
Vis in July and August is beautiful. Vis in June or September is something else. The sea is warm, the light is long, the beaches near the house are genuinely quiet, and the island feels more like itself — unhurried, local, unhassled.

Stiniva without the crowd
In peak season, Stiniva cove — Europe’s most beautiful beach — attracts day-trippers by the boatload. In June or September, you may have it almost to yourselves. The hike down is the same. The water is the same colour. The experience is considerably more peaceful.

The military caves and Geopark sites
The history of the island doesn’t change with the season. The Cold War military caves, the peninsula of Prirovo, the fortress of St. George — all of it is there in May just as it is in August, and you’ll explore it with a guide who has more time to tell you about it.

The full programme runs all season
Kayaking, cliff jumping, hiking, boat excursions, the Blue Lagoon, Stiniva — the full VIScovery week runs from April  through October. Nothing is removed in shoulder season. If anything, the programme is easier to enjoy when the sea is calmer and the island is quieter.

ROOM SHARE

Room sharing — how it works

For solo travellers who are open to it, we maintain a small pool of guests looking to share a double room during peak season. If we have a match — same gender, compatible travel dates — we’ll introduce you by email before either of you commits to the arrangement.

You are never automatically placed with someone. We ask first, we introduce you, and you decide. If it doesn’t feel right, we look for another solution.

In practice, room shares at VIScovery work well. When two solo travellers arrive on the same Saturday and spend a week kayaking, eating, and jumping off cliffs together, the room is usually the last thing either of them is thinking about.
